Small Screen Big Stars: Oh What a Night!

September 19, 2017

North Shore Senior Center would like to extend a special "thank you" to all of those who contributed to our annual benefit, Small Screen Big Stars. The 1950s TV event supported North Shore Senior Center’s mission to foster the independence and well-being of older adults, enhance their dignity and self respect, and promote their participation in and contribution toward all aspects of community life. We extend a heartfelt thank you to our fabulous co-chairs, Molly D’Esposito and Joan Golder, for spending months preparing for the gala, which raised $131,858 for the Center. We also are grateful for our dynamic master of ceremonies WGN radio host and Chicago Tribune columnist Rick Kogan, who knocked it out of the ballpark!

We also want to thank our sponsors: Peck Ritchey, LLC. (Premier Sponsor); Abbott and  Northbrook Inn (Platinum Sponsors);  Home Instead, Radford Green, Right at Home and Valenti Builders (Gold Sponsors); Addolorata Villa, First Bank of Highland Park, Glenview State Bank, Marquette Associates, North Shore Place, Associate Board of North Shore Senior Center and Silverado (Silver Sponsors).

North Shore Senior Center Executive Director Jordan Luhr said, “We can’t stress enough that any support of the Center and our annual benefit makes a difference. We are one giant family here at the Center and, in this time of need, we greatly appreciate your support so we can continue serving our community.”

Each year our at annual benefit, we present three awards in honor of the Center's first executive director, Janet Burgoon. Ms. Burgoon believed older adults should enjoy full participation in community life. These three awards recognize those who exemplify Ms. Burgoon's dedication to our mission.

This year's distinguished honorees were:

  • Martha & Lloyd Ferguson: Outstanding Philanthropists
  • The Russell & Josephine Kott Memorial Charitable Trust: Distinguished Community Partner
  • Peck Ritchey, LLC.: Dedicated Corporation

Next year’s annual benefit is slated for Saturday, September 22, 2018. Until then, as Edward R. Murrow  would say “Good night, and good luck.”
